The project was to design a weather app with a unique selling point (Usp), and then to program it and sync it to real-time weather
Over 2 to 3 weeks, the Cheesy weather app was born.
People check the weather app more than they know, whether it's because they're planning for an outing, or the clouds just look funny to them and they wanted to be sure. But how can we change this 10-second interaction into something personal and interesting? What is my USP? Ah yes, I make bad jokes and have tons of pick-up lines. That's it! That's my app's USP! I'll make it cheesy.
The PROJECT
I decided to make my app a reflection of my personality so I came up with the invention of the Cheesy Weather App that tries to pick you up no matter the weather. So that I can annoy my friends with my pickup lines in person and in technology.
The PROcessIt started with a mind-map of who I am, and what I'd like my weather app to do. Then the user flow and research, as I drew up low-fi designs and tested it out on my family and friends to see if their attention was captured by what was on the screen, or if the whole interaction lasting less than 5s and my USP not working out.
Once the user flow was completed, I started working on my actual mockups, before heading straight into the programming part. The app was coded to be in sync with the actual weather, and the pickup lines appear on random, related to the temperature the area was in.
My role
As it is my project, I had to come up with the user-flow, low-fi and high-fi of the designs. I was coded the app out independently.
final deliverables
A working weather app that makes your day within that short 10s interaction.
I actually had so much fun with this project, it's one of my favourites and I'm considering making it an actual app one day.
